Description
Dharmachakra Mudra
“Dharmachakra” translates from Sanskrit to “Wheel of Dharma.”
The thumb and index finger of both hands touch at their tips, forming a circle.
The hands are typically held in front of the chest.
The position of the palms can vary slightly depending on the artistic depiction.
The circle formed by the fingers represents the Wheel of Dharma, signifying the cyclical nature of Buddhist teachings.
It also symbolises the union of method and wisdom.
The extended fingers also hold symbolic meaning, sometimes representing aspects of the buddhist teachings, such as the three vehicles, or the three jewels.
Holding the hands in front of the heart symbolises that the teachings come from the heart of the Buddha.
In essence, the Dharmachakra Mudra is a powerful visual representation of the Buddha’s teachings and their propagation.
