The guru bead is composed of three beads representing the three vajra states of being – the three kayas or enlightened bodies. They symbolise enlightened body, speech and mind.
Nirmanakaya ~ The Body of Emanation
The largest bead is white howlite and symbolises the vajra body – the nirmanakaya or Buddha body.
Sambhogakaya ~ The Body of Enjoyment
The bead in the middle is red, symbolising vajra speech – the sambhogakaya or Buddha speech.
Dharmakaya ~ The Body of Truth
The smallest bead is lapis lazuli symbolising the mind of ultimate truth – the dharmakaya or Buddha mind.
